- Validity. NSFAS conducts third party checks with the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) or Department of Home Affairs.
- Evaluation. NSFAS verify all documents you submitted during your application.

- Awaiting academic results or admissions. NSFAS is checking your academic results and if you have been admitted at your institution.
- Awaiting registration. NSFAS is waiting for registration details from the institution. You are required to register at a public university or TVET college. The institution will supply your proof of registration directly to NSFAS.
