What is the difference between SBux and Celbux?

Celbux was previously called SBux, but it did not allow transactions of cash vouchers. NSFAS made a few changes and enabled the students to withdraw cash from their accounts through vouchers. Then, they rebranded SBux to celbux and named it NSFAS wallet.

How do I log in to NSFAS celbux?

  • First, visit celbux.appspot.com
  • Next, you will get a prompt asking for your details.
  • Then, enter your username, password, and phone number.
  • Finally, click on ‘login.’

How do Celbux vouchers work?

Previously, NSFAS would give students four types of vouchers for their allowances which would cover books, accommodation, food and transport. NSFAS then changed these vouchers into cash vouchers.

With students being given a cash voucher, this means that they can create a Celbux voucher through their NSFAS online wallet and can then withdraw the cash using that voucher by going to any of the merchants Celbux and NSFAS has partnered with. This leads to lower cash handling fees.

Why does NSFAS use Celbux?

A Celbux account is an alternative to having a bank account. Bank accounts requires students to use money for simple transactions and sometimes, to create the bank account.

With Celbux having accessibility as a goal, they’ve made everything free. This means that you don’t need to pay to create a NSFAS Wallet and that you don’t need to pay when you withdraw your NSFAS allowances through your NSFAS Wallet.

This NSFAS branded wallet is secure and is protected by a username and a password. This removes cash handling fees on small transactions. There is no NSFAS Wallet app as the service is administered through USSD links and a web channel. It doesn’t require much technical knowledge and is a modern digital services.

How do I pay for goods?

  1. Before getting to the till dial *128*7687# for the Celbux Wallet OR *120*176# for the NSFAS Wallet. Follow the prompts.
  2. Take your basket of goods to any till.
  3. Ask to pay with a Celbux voucher (also called a mobile payment with Celbux on Pick n Pay SmartBanking).
  4. The cashier will process the transaction and, if successful, provide you with your till slip and goods.

How do I withdraw cash on Celbux?

  1. Before getting to the till, dial *120*7687# on your cellphone, enter your password and select ‘Withdraw’ to create a voucher.
  2. Ask the teller at any till to withdraw cash from your Celbux Wallet or NSFAS Wallet.
  3. The cashier will process the transaction and, if successful, provide you with the cash and a till slip.
Benefits of Celbux:
  • Free to use
  • No registration required
  • Wallet in your pocket – mobile-device driven
  • Web and USSD based
  • Thousands of retailers to choose from
  • Accepted nationwide
  • Free, fast transfers
  • Controlled spend
