Main Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates appointed as Driver Grade II will be expected to perform duties related to the safe operation, maintenance and proper use of official vehicles. Their responsibilities will include:
- Inspecting the assigned vehicle before and after journeys to ensure that it is safe and suitable for use.
- Transporting government employees to different locations when carrying out official assignments.
- Performing minor vehicle maintenance where necessary.
- Delivering and collecting official documents and other required materials.
- Recording journey information and maintaining the vehicle’s logbook accurately.
- Keeping the assigned vehicle clean and in good condition.
- Carrying out other duties assigned by the responsible supervisor.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants for the Driver Grade II position should have Form Four or Form Six education and hold a valid Class E or Class C driving licence.
The applicant must also have at least one year of practical driving experience in the relevant licence category without causing a road accident. In addition, applicants are required to possess certificates showing completion of the training that qualifies them for the relevant driving licence class.
Applicants should also have completed a Basic Driving Course offered by VETA or another training institution recognized by the Government of Tanzania.
General Conditions for Applicants
Applicants must meet the following conditions:
- The applicant must be a Tanzanian citizen.
- Applicants should be aged 18 to 45 years.

- For Driver Grade II applicants holding Class C or E licences, certificates for the driving training that enabled them to obtain the respective licence class must be attached.
- Testimonial letters, provisional results, statements of results and Form Four or Form Six results slips will not be accepted in place of the required certificates.
- Candidates who obtained their qualifications outside Tanzania must ensure that their certificates have been verified and recognized by the appropriate authorities, including TCU, NECTA or NACTE where applicable.
- Public servants who have already retired from government employment are not eligible to apply unless they have obtained the required authorization from the Chief Secretary.
- Government employees already occupying entry-level positions should not apply and are required to follow the applicable government employment instructions.
- Providing false information or submitting forged academic or professional credentials may result in legal action.
