What Are the Company Requirements for UIF Registration in South Africa? According to South African legislation, all businesses must register with the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) and make contributions for workers who work more than 24 hours per week. Registration for UIF is a type of insurance registration that guarantees financial security for South African employees in the event of involuntary unemployment.Registration of a business and new employees for unemployment insurance contributions is regulated by the Acts listed below:

  • The Unemployment Insurance Contributions Act 4 of 2002 (UICA)

Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF)

Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) is insurance for the employees in the case of unemployment, maternity, adoption or illness leave. The company must be registered for UIF with the Department of Labour.

In order to register for UIF, the following documents and information is required:

  • CC/Company documents
  • Certified ID Copies of member(s)/director(s)
  • Nature of Business/Activities
  • PAYE Number (if applicable)
  • ID copies of employee/s
  • Employee/s gross salary
  • Commencement date of employment of employee/s

This Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) application process takes 10-15 working days. However, If there is a delay from The Labour Department” due to excessive workload, the process could take longer.

Once the UIF Registration application is complete, you will receive the following:

A UIF reference number

Cost for UIF Registration: R 499.00
