Job description

The financial manager will be responsible for the full finance function and the financial health of the business including maximizing profits and eliminating financial waste associated with costings. The FM will produce financial reports and present to the Executive team. The FM will ensure all governance requirements are met as well as supervise the financial accountant. The FM will moderate salient clauses in customer and supplier contracts.

Key responsibilities:

  • Report to the executive committee and implement long-term financial strategies developed by the board to ensure the achievement of the business’ financial goals
  • Manage finance function and oversee the output of direct reports: financial accountant and/or bookkeeper
  • Prepare financial recons and monthly management accounts (monthly accounts and reconciliations; Presentation to directors and shareholder at a monthly executive meeting; Actual expenditure against forecast; Detailed sales analysis on daily and monthly basis)
  • Produce detailed monthly cash flow forecasts
  • Develop annual budgets in collaboration with the CEO
  • Calculate and implement the management of costings and pricings (Assist departmental managers with compiling accurate rate cards and project costings; Analyse production costs and prepare regular reports comparing projected to actual production costs)
  • Maintain and lead with SARS requirements, including submissions of payments and reports
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements relating to financial control, financial management and accounting
  • Ensure appropriate external audit arrangements are in place and manage the audit process
  • Ensure that all balance sheet reconciliations are produced on an accurate and timely basis to include bank reconciliations, debtors, creditors and inter-company accounts
  • Maintain the accounting software and the website regarding price changes
  • Ensure implementation and adherence to finance policies, procedures and systems across all teams
  • Oversee accurate and timely feedback from accounts department regarding the ordering process (SO’s& PO’s)
  • Maintain the accounting filing system so that documentation is readily accessible
  • Review and authorize monthly payroll reports and payments
  • Respond to escalated department queries and/or financial issues

Requirements

  • Undergraduate qualification in accounting/finance/business administration
  • Post-graduate qualification
  • Two years’ experience in the role of FM
  • Two years of management experience
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively in a business environment
  • Project management skills
  • Proactive and self-motivated
  • Excellent leadership skills
