The e-Recruitment portal is an official online platform used by the Department of Home Affairs to:Advertise job vacancies,Accept applications electronically,Store applicant profiles,Manage recruitment and shortlisting.

The aim of the portal is said to assist in eliminating the hassle of paperwork both for the applicants and the department, The Citizen reported on 8 December 2024. The launch is said to be another step towards Home Affairs’ plans towards digital transformation.

Home Affairs Government Jobs Portal Registration Process Explained

Step 1: Access the e-Recruitment Portal

  1. Open your internet browser and go to:
    https://erecruitment.dha.gov.za/
  2. Click on “Register” at the top right corner of the homepage.

Step 2: Create an Account

Fill in the registration form with the following details:

  • Full Name and Surname
  • ID Number
  • Email Address
  • Phone Number
  • Username and Password (Create a secure password)

Once completed, click “Submit”. You will receive a confirmation email or SMS to activate your account.

Step 3: Log In to Your Account

Once your account is activated:

  1. Return to the homepage.
  2. Click “Log In”.
  3. Enter your Username and Password.

You now have access to your e-Recruitment profile dashboard.

Step 4: Set Up Your Profile

After logging in, complete your profile. Sections include:

  • Personal Details
  • Education Background
  • Work Experience (if applicable)
  • Skills and Competencies
  • Languages
  • References

Ensure your information is correct and up to date. This profile is used as part of your job applications.

Step 5: Upload Required Documents

To apply for jobs successfully, upload clear, certified copies of the following:

  • South African ID Document
  • Matric Certificate
  • Tertiary Qualifications (if any)
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Z83 Application Form (if requested in the job advert)
  • Other relevant certificates (Driver’s License, Skills Courses, etc.)

Important: Documents should be in PDF or Word format and should not exceed the system’s size limit (usually 2MB per file).

What is the Z83 Form?

The Z83 form is a standard job application form used in all South African government departments. It is mandatory for most public service applications.

How to Fill Out the Z83 Form

You can download the form here

Fill it in as follows:

  1. Section A – Personal Details
    • Full name, ID number, contact details, etc.
  2. Section B – Language Proficiency
    • Indicate which languages you can read, write, and speak.
  3. Section C – Qualifications
    • Mention your educational background and attach certificates.
  4. Section D – Work Experience
    • List any previous jobs or internships.
  5. Section E – References
    • Provide at least two referees with contact details.
  6. Section F – Declaration
    • Sign and date the declaration to confirm accuracy.
  7. Section G – Additional Information
    • Use the space to mention special skills, achievements, or other relevant info.

Tip: Type and save a digital copy to reuse it in future applications.

How to Find and Apply

  1. Log in to the e-Recruitment portal.
  2. Click on “Vacancies”.
  3. Filter by Job Title, Location, or Job Type.
  4. Read the requirements carefully.
  5. Click “Apply” and upload your documents.
  6. Follow up via email or phone if needed.

How to Apply for Learnerships

  1. Go to the “Learnership Opportunities” section on the portal.
  2. Review available programmes.
  3. Make sure you meet the criteria (e.g., age 18-35, unemployed, Grade 12).
  4. Submit your application with a Z83 form, CV, and certified ID copy.

Popular Government Learnerships include:

  • Home Affairs Cadet Learnership
  • EPWP (Expanded Public Works Programme)
  • PSET Learnerships
  • Artisan Learnerships

How to Apply for Internships

  1. On the portal, go to “Internships” under Opportunities.
  2. Look for internships relevant to your qualifications (e.g., HR, Finance, IT).
  3. Make sure you meet the minimum requirements.
  4. Submit:
    • Updated CV
    • Z83 form
    • Academic transcripts
    • Certified qualifications
    • ID copy

Tip: Apply to multiple internships to increase your chances.

Final Tips for Success

  • Check regularly: New jobs are posted often. Check the portal every few days.
  • Keep documents updated: Refresh your CV and re-certify documents every 3 months.
  • Read instructions: Make sure you follow every step mentioned in the job advert.
  • Apply on time: Submit your application before the closing date.
  • Avoid scams: Government jobs are never sold. Do not pay any money to apply.
