Follow these steps to register a foreign worker for UIF in South Africa:

  • Determine Your Eligibility

Before registering a foreign worker for UIF, ensure they match the requirements. The worker must have a current work permit or a key skills visa, which allows them to work legally in the nation.

  • Register as an Employer

If you have not registered as an employer with the UIF, then do so. This includes completing the necessary forms and providing relevant details about your business.

  • Obtain the UI-8 Form

Request a UI-8 form from the Department of Labor which is commonly referred to as the Employer Application for Registration or search for the form online.

  • Fill out the UI-8 Form

Include reliable and up-to-date details regarding the foreign employee on the UI-8 structure. This comprises personal details, information regarding employment, and the duration of the work contract as well.

  • Compile the necessary documentation.

In order to complete registration with the UIF, the foreign worker’s existing work permit or essential skills visa, a certified passport copy and any other relevant documentation the UIF requires must be collected First things first,ൊgood encouragement.

Example

If the employee earns R10,000 monthly:

  • Employee contributes: R100

The employer deducts the employee portion and pays both amounts to UIF monthly.

Can Foreigners File UIF Claims?

In the Republic of South Africa, immigrants with work vis a vis those who fulfill the prerequisite conditions can also submit a claim for benefits from the unemployment insurance fund (U.I.F). Non-South African employees must have a current work permit or a critical skills visa that allows them to work in the country in order to be eligible for U.I.F.
