What is NSFAS One Time Pin (OTP)

OTP is a code that is generated and sent to a mobile device/phone number, as part of a verification process. This verification process is used by NSFAS to ensure that each applicant’s account is secure. The OTP code that is sent to the linked phone number is only valid for a short session and for single use.

The OTP code that is sent to the linked phone number is only valid for a short session and for single use. While the OTP system is considered safe and secure, it can sometimes be difficult for applicants to receive the pin on their first try.

What To Do If You’re Having Trouble Accessing Your NSFAS OTP

NSFAS has suggested for applicants to click on the option to “resend OTP”. Doing this will make the system generate a new code, which will be sent to the same phone number

However, there are some applicants who no longer have access to their phone number, or have changed their phone number. This will make it difficult to simply resend the OTP code when trying to access their account.

The good news is, this issue can be solved by following a few steps.

How To Update Your Phone Number To Receive Your NSFAS OTP

  • Go to NSFAS website at www.nsfas.org.za
  •  and click on myNSFAS account
  • Enter your username and password
  • Click on the ‘My personal details’ tab
  • Enter your current cell phone number and email address
  • Click Update your details
  • A One Time Pin (OTP) will be sent to the new cell phone number and email address that you have provided
  • Enter the OTP and click submit
  • Your details will immediately be updated
