Job Summary

 

  • To lead, drive the performance of and actively manage the teams charged with the business of credit risk sanctioning with specific responsibilities for Absa Bank Tanzania Corporate & Business Banking portfolio customers ( majority with credit exposures of <Ā£500k).
  • Ensure as a Team Leader and sanctioner that the agreed asset quality of the corporate portfolio is maintained, both as regards risk decisions supporting origination, interim reviews, annual reviews and on-going monitoring and control.
  • Deliver a World-Class Credit service for the Country of responsibility.
  • Risk representative on Commercial credit Committees

 

Job Purpose.

Main accountabilities and approximate time split

Team Leadership 30-40%

Outputs:

Develop highly motivated team maintaining excellent relationships within own team and wider team to ensure achievement of business goals. Lead by example across the risk community ensuring a collaborative approach to the Relationship and Sales Risk Partnership. Consider the training and development needs of the team and support the development and implementation of solutions. Act as a role model and drive proactive application of Absa Behaviors throughout the team including establishment of common goals and objectives. Ensure effective performance development and succession planning for the team.

Credit Risk Management30-40%

Outputs:

 

  • Ensure the highest standards of credit quality through the sanctioning, sampling and application of best practice to credit proposals, and maintenance of these standards throughout the Corporate Credit Team.
  • Implementation and on going delivery of credit policy and processes.Ā  Feed into business and credit policy development.
  • Sole lending discretion; BBG linked up to a maximum of Ā£500k. (depending on personal experience/accreditation)
  • Exercise personal judgement and discretion in the evaluation and approval/decline of credit proposals.
  • Responsibility for personal & team adherence to governance, compliance and lending portfolio controls. Ensuring conformance to policy and procedures including proactive management of agreed responsibilities for Data Integrity.
  • Maintain interactive relationship with Coaching & Support and Conformance and Audit Team.
  • Challenge pricing in order to maximise value. Ultimate sign off at customer level remains with Country Corporate Director.

 

Business Risk Partnership 10-20%

 

  • Support Corporate Credit Directors, EM in monitoring service & delivery in line with business needs.
  • Work in partnership with the Corporate Director to ensure that the local credit teams act to proactively anticipate respond to and seek to exceed the expectations of customers. Always look to add value.

  • Proactively embed agreed change initiatives e.g. in support of process & quality improvements, cost reductions and development of credit people.

Additional Details

Head of Corporate Credit has direct impact upon credit quality and therefore consumption of economic capital. Has an influence on return. Is directly responsible for Operational risk within specific team environment.Ā  Failure to have these areas maintained would impact Bank profitability and brand.

HOCC will be the local credit representative upon Country Commercial Management Committees and so will influence the overall country business objectives and deliverables.Ā  It will also be a forum to gain impact from a credit perspective to issues affecting asset quality and appetite.Ā  The role will include liaison with local regulators as needed.

A specific coaching and training plan will be developed in order to achieve accreditation for credit risk allowing direct, one stop sanctioning.Ā  Achievement of this ā€œlicenseā€ will be an integral measure of success in the role.

Wholesales Credit Head operates across large geographic areas, covering widely different businesses & industry sectors.

Wholesales Credit Head impact is high in the identification and management of impaired debt. Early identification of problem cases, and close working with Absa Business Support, minimises potential credit losses to the Bank.

Wholesales Credit Head value rests in managing high volume sanctioning.

Job Description

 

  • Directly manage the Debt Balance sheet and P&L targets ā€“ along with the relationship managers and product teams
  • Formulate overall strategy across coverage segments including products, customer proposition, lending approach.
  • Assist Relationship Managers in originating and executing debt transactions across all teams.
  • Originate, execute Debt and Investment Banking opportunities
  • Work with specialist product areas to offer clients a comprehensive and competitive package to meet their requirements.
