The new US News law rankings, which were issued on March 28, are for individuals who are interested in such matters, whether they be prospective students deciding which school to attend or graduates wondering how their alma mater is faring in terms of status. As some had anticipated given the modifications to US News’ approach from the previous year, there was one particularly major event in the ranking adjustments this year. The list will now be presented, beginning with the t14:

3) University of Chicago (Last year: 4)
4) Columbia University (Last year: 4)
4) Harvard University (Last year: 3)
6) University of Pennsylvania (Last year: 6)

Personally, I am a little saddened to see Northwestern, my alma mater, slipping. In light of this, congratulations are due to another Chicago law school; the University of Chicago’s entry into the top three and the dissolution of the HYS band are both unquestionably triumphs. (No offence to Harvard, but we like to occasionally spice things up!) At the bubble, there has been movement as well, with Georgetown returning and UCLA exiting the t14. The t14 is the same as it was when I was in law school, but the order is different. I guess that things change and remain the same at the same time. The remaining top 50 US law schools are shown below:

Just a brief pause to offer a few insightful insights regarding the top 30. For BYU, George Mason, Ohio State, and William & Mary, each of which rose by at least five and as many as eleven positions in the rankings, we wonder if it was just the change in methodology. We also question the validity of the five-way tie. (We’re joking; we have no intention of casting doubt on US News’ credibility. We just believe that eliminating the tie in hockey was the best decision the sport has ever made.)
