Operations Intern: TeachersCAN and Parents Empowerment Initiative
Parents and teachers play a critical role in the educational journey of South Africa’s children. When empowered, they can use their agency to shape the education system, and ultimately the learning experience of South African children.
With that in mind, the DG Murray Trust is incubating 2 initiatives focused on building the agency of parents and teachers.
The Parent Empowerment Initiative aims to support parents to:
- demand quality education for their children and accountability for their learning;
- build their shared identity as valued and active stakeholders in children’s education; and
- leverage “ordinary magic” for the benefit of their children.
The Teachers’ Change Agent Network (TeachersCAN) seeks to build an empowered network of young teachers who:
- are driven by the goal to enable all learners to reach their potential and
- find a common identity rooted in professionalism, creativity and disruption of the status quo.
Position:
While both projects are in the emergent phase, the DGMT is recruiting an Operations Intern to work across both projects. As the Operations Intern will be supporting the Parent Empowerment Initiative and the TeachersCAN Network, the successful candidate will take on the following responsibilities:
- Provide administrative and logistical support to the Parent Empowerment Initiative and TeachersCAN team.
- Track payments and invoices to ensure that all activities for the TeachersCAN fellowship and Parent Local Mobilisation are executed within the allotted budget.
- Support the team in resolving operational issues and problems.
- Provide the team with operational updates.
Requirements:
At a minimum, the candidate must have:
- a post-school qualification – in business administration or related field;
- Computer literacy, with basic proficiency in MS Suite, particularly Excel;
- good communication skills both orally and written and;
- detail orientated;
The ideal candidate has the following attributes, they:
- are fluent in two or more South African languages;
- can take initiative and use judgement;
- are a skilful problem solver;
- are respectful of deadlines;
- can work well within a team.
