Job description

Head of Certification and Standards Department:

The Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa NPC (FPI), a SAQA recognised professional body, is seeking the services of a mature Head of our Certification and Standards Department, to take responsibility for planning, developing, directing and delivering world-class certification standards and services on behalf of the FPI.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for the following duties and others as assigned:

Certification management:

  • Build, implement, manage and update the certification strategy;
  • Develop and review competencies and professional position, congruent with demands of the profession;
  • Lead and develop staff;
  • Identify staff training needs;
  • Define and follow up of yearly targets and objectives;
  • Provide direction; guidance and support to the department to ensure alignment with the company’s overall strategy;
  • Set education standards and compile relevant policies;
  • Conduct job analysis survey;
  • Compile code of conduct;
  • Recruit and manage educational providers;
  • Manage relevant Committees and processes;
  • Design, review and align curriculum to future needs of profession;
  • Oversee accreditation of CPD providers
  • Stakeholder management;
  • Manage the assessment processes;
  • Departmental budgeting and management of departmental expenses;
  • Vet FPI professional Practice applications;
  • Establish and review mentorship programme;
  • Identify and assess risks pertaining to the area of responsibility;
  • Set and successfully run the FPI’s Professional Competency Examinations;
  • Run with candidate support campaigns in collaboration with FPI’s technical department.

Requirements

Education, knowledge, skills and attributes:

Qualification and minimum requirements

Minimum

  • Post-graduate diploma in financial planning or BCom Honours in financial planning;
  • CFP Professional in good standing;
  • Prior experience in a certification role;
  • Previous experience in a management role;
  • Experience in dealing with SAQA, INSETA/SETA’s and FSCA on education matters would be advantageous.

Knowledge and skills required

  • Knowledge and understanding of certification standards and processes, application processes, examination processes and CPD approval processes;
  • Outstanding strategy development and alignment skills;
  • Excellent staff leadership and management skills and prior experience managing a team;
  • Strong experience in drafting and managing budgets.
