The Gauteng Department of Education has opened online applications for grade 7 and grade 8 admissions for the 2023 school year. Applications are open from August 10 to 03 September 2022.
Parents can apply to a maximum of 5 schools. Supporting documents must be submitted along with the application, this must be done within 7 days of applyingParents are encouraged to use a reliable cellphone number when applying, as the Department will send regular SMSes to the cell phone number used to register and apply.
If you need assistance with the applications, the department has set up decentralised walk-in centres that are available from 08:00 to 16:00.
Applications for placing learners in schools are not approved on a first come first serve basis, so parents do not have to worry.

Waiting List Management Schools submit electronically signed off Online Waiting List indicating successful and unsuccessful applicants based on document verification to District Director for approval. The District Directors then quality assure School Waiting Lists in line with admissions criteria and available spaces and electronically signs off waiting list, which is then recieved by the schools before placement. Placement of Learners by Schools [ October 2023 –October 2023]
During this period, parents will receive offers of placement via SMS. Where spaces are available, parents may receive offers from all schools they applied to. The System will notify parents when there are no further offers available. Parents are advised to accept each offer within 7 days or will forfeit the offer. The latest offer accepted will cancel all previous offers
Placement of Unplaced Learners by Districts – [ October 2023– November 2023 ]
During this period, all learners who could not be placed at the schools that they applied to due to all spaces being filled or due to not meeting Admissions Criteria, are placed at schools with available space.
