How we made it in Africa (www.howwemadeitinafrica.com), the award-winning online pan-African business publication, is looking to appoint a smart and ambitious online business development/sales executive on a part-time basis (1-day a week initially). We offer a basic salary, with the opportunity to earn unlimited extra commission. The successful candidate will sell online advertising solutions for How we made it in Africa and our sister publication Africa Private Equity News (visit www.africaprivateequitynews.com to download the app).Initially we are looking for someone to work from our office in Woodstock one day a week.

About our publications
How we made it in Africa, established in April 2010, is aimed at African business people as well as foreign investors with an interest in the continent (find more information on our website). The Africa Private Equity News app is a highly specialised platform for African private equity general partners, limited partners, service providers and other stakeholders. The platform provides the latest private equity news, interviews and features; an IRR calculator; currencies; and much more. Past and current advertisers on the two platforms include Standard Bank, DHL, Vodacom, Siemens, Barclays, Bowmans, UCT Graduate School of Business, Microsoft, SAP, Ethiopian Airlines, Absa, RMB, Standard Chartered,  KPMG and EY, to name a few.

Job duties

  • Listen to clients’ marketing needs and offer them relevant online advertising solutions on How we made it in Africa / Africa Private Equity News.
  • Identify and attract new clients/advertisers relevant for the respective two platforms.
  • Put together attractive sponsorship proposals (with no spelling errors!).
  • Maintain excellent relationships with existing clients.
  • Work with editorial department to structure sponsorship packages.
  • Meet monthly revenue targets

Requirements

  • A smart individual, preferably with a university degree.
  • Strong verbal, listening and written communication skills.
  • Outgoing, friendly personality.
  • Ability to think outside-the-box, and convert the client’s marketing needs into revenue for How we made it in Africa/Africa Private Equity News.
  • Understanding of the online marketing/advertising environment.
  • A thick contact book with strong contacts within media agencies and corporate marketing departments.
  • An interest in business and economics would be an advantage.
  • Driving licence and own transport. Willingness to travel.
