CAT 2020 exam will be conducted on November 29. The registration process is currently underway and the last date to apply is September 16. The official website of CAT 2020 (iimcat.ac.in) went live on July 29 with all the information related to the entrance exam and IIM admission process. There is no change in CAT exam pattern or syllabus and the testing mode remains online. The examination body however, may bring about some changes depending upon COVID 19 situation in the country.
What is CAT Exam?
Common Admission Test or CAT exam is a common aptitude test which is a gateway to 20 IIMs and over 1,200 B-schools in India. CAT is conducted in online mode in over 156 cities. The exam is held in two slots and the question paper comprises 100 MCQs & non-MCQs from Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) and Quantitative Ability (QA). Over two lakh candidates appear in CAT exam every year. In 2019, the number of candidates who registered for the exam was 2,44,190 lakh and the number of candidates who appeared in the exam was 2,09,926. This is a record number in the past 10 years.

CAT 2020 registration process began on August 5 and will end on September 16. The process of registration for CAT 2020 exam will be online where in the candidates will have to fill an online application form and pay Rs 2,000 as exam fee. Any candidate who has completed graduation with 50 per cent aggregate can apply for CAT exam. Final year graduation candidates are also eligible to apply. With only 15 days left for CAT 2020 application form submission, aspirants must hurry up to get the test city of their choice.
CAT exam is gateway to over 1200 MBA colleges in India. Every year, one of the 20 IIMs conducts the exam in over 156 cities. CAT 2019 was conducted by IIM Kozhikode. CAT 2020 will be conducted by IIM Indore. Official notification for CAT 2020 was released on July 29. The exam is scheduled for November 29.

CAT Registration Process 2020
CAT registration process 2020 will include three steps:
- Online registration
- Filling up of CAT 2020 application form
- Payment of fees
CAT 2020 Registration:
To register for CAT exam, the candidates have to follow the steps given below.
- Open the CAT 2020 website in a new window (iimcat.ac.in)
- Click on New Candidate Registration
- Enter name, date of birth, email ID, phone number and nationality
- Click to generate OTP (one time password)
- The OTP will be sent in your inbox
- Verify your account by entering the OTP in the given field
- Upon verification, the candidate will receive their CAT 2020 user ID and password
Filling up of CAT 2020 application form:
To fill the online application form of CAT 2020, follow the steps given below.
- Log on to the official CAT 2020 website using the user ID and password
- Fill in relevant details in all six sections of the CAT form: personal details, academics, work experience, programmes, test city and fee payment
- Upload scanned copies of passport sized photo and signature in the prescribed format and size
- Review the CAT application form and click on submit to move to payment page

Candidates can pay CAT fees online through debit card/credit card and net banking. The candidates are advised to download the fee acknowledgement slip for future reference.

How to Select CAT Test Cities in Application Form?
For allotment of CAT test centre, the candidates are given the option to select the city of their choice in the registration cum application form. For CAT 2020, the candidates can select up to six cities where they wish to take the exam. The examination authority will allot the test centre in the city of candidate’s preference.

- CAT 2020 will be conducted in 156 cities across India. Candidates have to select six cities in order of preference from one to six.
- CAT test city and centre will be allotted basis availability of seats and the right to allot or cancel a test centres remains with the exam conducting body.
- Cities once selected cannot be changed. The candidates will have to make arrangement for stay in the test city on their own.
- The CAT exam centre venue will be mentioned on the CAT admit card only.
