SASSA Payment Schedule May 2026

SASSA has confirmed the social grant payment dates for May 2026.

— Older persons will receive their grants on 5 May

— Disability grants will be paid on 6 May

— Children’s grants will be paid on 7 May 2026

However, the agency said that to ensure the optimal functioning of the National Payment System and access to funds by grant beneficiaries, the following are also considered:

  • Payments should not be made a day after a holiday.
  • Payments should not be made on the first of the month or on a Monday.
  • Payment dates should not fall at a weekend.

How Much Did Grants Increase?

Meanwhile, as announced by the Minister of Finance during his Budget Speech, from April, grants increased as follows:

— Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant and Care Dependency Grant increased by R80 to R2,400

— War Veterans Grant increased by R80 to R2,420

— Foster Child Grant increased by R40 to R1,290

— Child Support Grant and Grant-In-Aid increased by R20 to R580

Who is Eligible for SASSA Payments?

Specific criteria for each grant type determine eligibility for SASSA grants. Here’s a breakdown of the qualifications for the three main grants:

Older Person’s Grants

Applicants must be South African citizens or permanent residents aged 60 or older to qualify for the Older Person’s Grant.

Disability Grants

This grant is for individuals with a disability significantly preventing them from working. Applicants must provide medical evidence to support their claims and meet the income threshold requirements.

Childcare Grants

This grant is designed for primary caregivers of children under the age of 18. Caregivers must be South African citizens or permanent residents and meet the income eligibility requirements.
