Training Structure of SANDF MSDS
The programme runs for two years, divided into two phases:
Year 1: Training and Development Phase
Recruits undergo:
- Basic military training

- Teamwork and operational ethics
This phase prepares recruits for professional deployment and exposes them to the standards required in defence environments.
Year 2: Deployment and Application Phase

SANDF MSDS 2027 Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Citizenship and Age
- Must be a South African citizen
- No dual citizenship permitted
- 18–22 years of age (Grade 12 applicants)
- 18–26 years of age (tertiary qualification holders)
Academic Requirements
- Admission Point Score (APS) of 18 or above (excluding Life Orientation)
- Mathematics and Physical Science required for specialised musterings (e.g., aviation engineering, technical roles)
Legal and Medical Criteria
- No criminal record
- No pending legal cases
- Must comply with SANDF medical requirements
- Drug testing required
- Psychometric evaluation required
- Medical evaluation required
Appearance Standards
- No visible tattoos when in uniform
- Body inspection will be conducted
