Position: Quarry Shift Supervisor
To supervise and coordinate all quarry, crushing, and raw material supply activities during the assigned shift, ensuring safe and efficient contractor performance while meeting quarry production, crusher throughput, raw mill feed, quality, and environmental targets. The role is responsible for maintaining continuous raw material supply from the quarry through crushing operations to the cement plant.
To supervise and coordinate all quarry, crushing, and raw material supply activities during the assigned shift, ensuring safe and efficient contractor performance while meeting quarry production, crusher throughput, raw mill feed, quality, and environmental targets. The role is responsible for maintaining continuous raw material supply from the quarry through crushing operations to the cement plant.
Contractor Supervision
- Direct and supervise contractor personnel involved in drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, crushing, and auxiliary quarry activities.
- Monitor contractor performance against contract KPIs and production targets.
- Ensure contractors utilize equipment and resources efficiently.
- Verify contractor manpower, equipment availability, and shift attendance.
- Coordinate contractor activities to minimize operational disruptions
Production Management
- Execute daily quarry production plans issued by the Quarry Superintendent.
- Monitor extraction, loading, hauling, and dumping activities to achieve shift targets.
- Track production volumes and equipment productivity.
- Coordinate with blasting, crushing, and maintenance teams to ensure operational continuity.
- Manage stockpile levels and material quality requirements.
- Supervise contractor personnel involved in crusher operations.
- Ensure crushers are operated safely and efficiently to achieve planned throughput.
- Monitor crusher performance, throughput rates, and downtime.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to address equipment breakdowns and operational issues.
- Ensure proper feeding practices to prevent blockages, excessive wear, and unplanned stoppages.
- Verify housekeeping standards in crusher areas and ensure compliance with safety requirements.
Raw Mill Feed Management
- Ensure continuous and consistent supply of suitable limestone and additives to maintain raw mill operations.
- Monitor crusher stock levels and raw material stockpile management.
- Coordinate with the Production and Quality Departments to maintain the required raw mix chemistry and quality targets.
- Optimize quarry material blending to achieve plant quality requirements.
- Communicate regularly with the CCR (Central Control Room) operators regarding raw mill feed demand and material availability.
- Take corrective actions to prevent raw mill stoppages due to insufficient material supply or poor material quality.
Staff
- Employees’ performance management against standards
- Causes of non-performance
- Recommend corrective actions
- Coaching, training and needs identification
Ensure OSHA compliance as per company and statutory requirements. Observe relevant environmental policies and regulations Compliance to Heidelberg Materials Group Code of Business Conduct, Compliance Policies and Guidelines. Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or its equivalent.
- Registered with ERB or any reputable engineering professional body.
Knowledge and Specific Experience
- 2 – 3 years’ experience in quarry activities.
- Experience in supervising employees.
- Technical knowledge of good mining practice.
- Team leadership and joint problem solving.
- Quantitative analysis & decision making.
- Technical knowledge in using survey instruments.
- Paying attention to details.
