Job Vacancies at Wesley College Mwanza March 2022 Wesley College is a new educational venture that is being built from the ground up, not looking at traditional education models, but the specific educational needs in Tanzania and what type of higher education institute would have the ability to address those educational needs. Wesley College will use experiential, project based learning to help prepare students to be job ready professionals.

Wesley College is located in Mwanza, Tanzania, the second largest city in the country. Wesley College is registered with the Institute of Adult Education and the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) and opened in February 2017.

Wesley College is currently offering programs in theology, adult education, and short course computer programs.

Starting in 2018 Wesley College will also offer community development, business administration, and information & communication technology.

JOB DESCRIPTION FOR PRINCIPAL POSITION

LOCATION: Mwanza, Tanzania

JOB TYPE: Full Time

SUPERVISOR: Board of Trustees, Advisory Board

DIRECT REPORTS: Deputy Principal of Academics; Dep. Principal of Finance and Administration, Administrative Secretary, Deputy principal of development

JOB SUMMARY

The PRINCIPAL of Wesley College will be responsible for the administrative oversight of the college including, but not limited to, staff, finances, academic programs, student services, and external communication. The principal will also be responsible for the growth of Wesley College by contributing to the design and implementation of the strategic plan, design and implementation of new academic/community programs, increasing student enrollment, and ensuring the long-term growth and health of the college. Attributes: A successful candidate will be entrepreneurial in approaching the challenges of growing a young institution, experienced in running an aggressively growing organization, aware of big picture trends in education within Tanzania, and able to function well as the voice of the institution.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide leadership for the daily operations of the campus and college both in areas of management and program operations.

2. Oversee daily staff operations, including staff schedules, reports on completion of duties, adherence to all standards and policies, and resolution of complaints or discipline issues.

3. Create and lead the senior leadership team in oversight of the operational and fiscal management of the college in a way that fulfills the vision and goals of the college.

4. Perform job evaluations semi-annually (twice a year) for staff and faculty or as needed.

5. Oversee development of the physical site including ensuring all safety regulations are followed.

6. Oversee the development and disbursement of the annual budget.

7. Oversee the running and administration of academic programs, current and those in process of development through the Dep. Principal of Academics and other relevant offices.

8. Oversee student services including admissions, advising, completion of academic programs through the Dean of Students and other relevant offices.

9. Ensure adherence to government requirements for awards for successful completion of academic programs.

10. Represent Wesley College to donors, partners, government officials, and the general public.

11. Oversee the recruitment of students through the marketing officer and other relevant offices.

12. Contribute to the development of new academic and community programs.

13. Oversee the college’s unique process of student development into professional, practical, servant leaders for the community.

14.Contribute to the development and oversee the implementation of the college’s strategic plan for growth and development.

15. Provide regular reports on the program performance and financial progress of the college to the Advisory Board, Board of Trustees, and other necessary parties.

16. Oversee staff and faculty development in keeping with the vision and mission of the college and hold regular staff meetings to assess progress of the college.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s Degree in relevant field
  • 5 years in a supervisory/management role within an organization with demonstrated success of growth
  • Experience in team building and a participatory leadership culture

JOB DESCRIPTION FOR HEAD OF DEPARTMENT IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

LOCATION: Mwanza, Tanzania

JOB TYPE: Full Time

POSITION TITLE: H.O.D Business Administration

SUPERVISOR: Deputy Principal of Academics

DIRECT REPORTS: Director of Business incubator, department teaching staff.

JOB SUMMARY:

To oversee the curriculum and academic standards of the department, oversee tutors within the department, and be responsible for the creation and implementation of a department specific strategic plan for the growth and development of the Departments of Business and Entrepreneurship within Wesley college.

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Ensure quality curriculum is prepared for use within the department that meets academic standards, NACTEVET requirements, and contextual, practical needs of students.
  • Review and approve lessons plan of all tutors, both full-time and part time.
  • Create and oversee a quality control plan for all tutors and markers within the department.
  • Attend all staff meeting for Wesley College
  • Chair regular staff meetings for the department
  • Fulfill recruitment duties as assigned including, but not limited to, recruitment events, speaking at schools etc.
  • Provide and utilize criteria for the selection of full and part time tutors as needed.
  • Provide and utilize criteria for the evaluation of all tutors and professors, full and part time.
  • Ensure the development and implementation of strategic plan for growth and improvement for the department.
  • Ensure follow up evaluation of the effectiveness of graduates from the department.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Bachelor Degree in Business Administration or relevant field
  • 3 years in teaching and also a supervisory/management role within an organization with demonstrated success of growth
  • Experience in team building and a participatory leadership culture

Position: Swahili Tutor

 

JOB DESCRIPTION FOR SWAHILI TUTOR

LOCATION: Mwanza, Tanzania

JOB TYPE: Part Time

POSITION TITLE: Kiswahili Tutor

SUPERVISOR: H.O.D Adult Education

JOB SUMMARY: Following approved curriculum, ensure student’s competency in areas of study through instruction and evaluation, and provide reports of the same to head of the department.

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Following college procedures, make sure that all class periods are attended and that your attendance is recorded in the appropriate way
  • Utilize curriculum to prepare a lesson plan which should be approved by the head of the department.
  • Conduct classes according to approved lesson plans.
  • Take attendance of students and reports to the head of the department.
  • Evaluate student’s progress in learning and record the results of the evaluation according to college procedures.
  • Issue marks to students and make sure that all marks are recorded and submitted to the office no more than one week after the end of the course.
  • Check in with the head of the department at least once every three weeks to give a verbal report of class progress and discussion any challenges in the curriculum or student progress.
