The growing demand for renewable energy solutions has created new career opportunities in the energy sector. In response to this demand, Ehlanzeni TVET College has announced the Battery Energy Storage Skills Programme for Unemployed Youth 2026, aimed at equipping young people with practical skills in modern energy storage systems.

Ehlanzeni TVET College, in partnership with GFA Consulting Group and the Energy and Water Sector Education and Training Authority (EWSETA), has officially opened applications for a 5-month skills programme in Based Domestic Energy System Mounting (NQF Level 4).

What Will You Learn?

This programme prepares you for real-world renewable energy work.

During the training, learners will acquire technical and practical competencies that allow them to safely work with energy storage systems.

Key Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn how to:

  • Mount domestic Battery Energy Storage DC systems and solar panels
    • Maintain and service Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
    • Troubleshoot energy storage system faults
    • Remove and replace faulty electrical components
    • Guide users on safe use and maintenance of battery systems
    • Apply basic business processes to run a small energy services business

This training ensures that learners graduate with both technical installation skills and entrepreneurship knowledge.

Programme Stipend

Successful learners will receive a stipend during the 5-month training period.

However:

  • Transport costs are your responsibility
  • Accommodation is not funded
  • The stipend covers personal expenses only

Qualifications and General Requirements

To apply for the programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Electrical Infrastructure Construction (EIC) Level 4 with a minimum pass of 75% in Electrical Systems and Construction and Electrical Principles and Practice

OR

  • Electrical Engineering N6 qualification with at least 65% in Electrotechnics

Additional requirements include:

  • Must have been a student at Ehlanzeni TVET College
    • Must not have previously benefited from a SETA learnership, internship, or training programme
    • Must be between 18 and 35 years old
    • Must be currently unemployed

These requirements ensure the programme targets young graduates who are ready to enter the workforce.
