  6. Select the waffle drop-down menu (top), and click on your desired course.
  7. Once in your course: Course Home displays news and updates; Content lets you access course material; Assessments gives access to quizzes, discussions, etc.; and Grades will display your marks.

Anyone logging in with a S# or a Saint Mary’s student must change their password using the SMU Activate website (activate.smu.ca). Enter your username if you are a guest, a visiting student, an AST student, or someone who is not using their S# to sign in. You will then receive an email with a password reset link.

  2. Click “Enter Secure Area” and enter your User ID (A#) and PIN
  3. Click on “Student Information” and “Registration”

There is a quick way to do this on the brightspace LMS if you have written your assignment on paper and want to convert it to PDF without having to worry about typing it.

It entails using the phone’s camera to scan the document. Before you begin, make sure to download the Microsoft office software.

  1. Log into smu brightspace.
  2. Navigate to the action tab on your dashboard to scan the document.
  3. Select Scan to PDF.
  4. After capturing the document, you can adjust its borders to get the specific content you want.
  5. There is an option to add multiple pages.
  6. Click Done.
  7. Click the Upload button to upload the photos.
  8. Give your document a name (eg. animal biology assignment).

Go to Self Service Banner and follow these instructions to register for courses.

  1. Select “Enter Secure Area”
  2. Enter your User ID (A#) and PIN
  3. Select the “Student” tab at the top
  4. Select “Registration”
  5. Select “Add or Drop Classes”
  6. Select the appropriate term from the drop-down menu and click “Submit”.
  7. Enter the CRN (5-digit number) for the courses, labs and recitations you want to register for in the “Add Classes Worksheet”.
  8. Click “Submit Changes”.

After submitting your changes, two things may appear:

  • A list of successfully added courses (with an option to drop them). You are successfully registered for these courses.
  • You may also see a list of courses that could not be added, with error messages explaining why. You are not registered for these courses.
