What is the NSFAS Consent Form?

The NSFAS consent form grants the organization permission to verify the information you provide in your application.

This includes contacting relevant institutions like the South African Revenue Service (SARS) and the Department of Home Affairs to confirm your income, residency status, and other details.

By signing the consent form, you acknowledge your understanding of how NSFAS will use your personal information and agree to the terms and conditions of the application process.

Who Qualifies For NSFAS Funding?

NSFAS offers bursaries for South African students studying at public universities and TVET colleges for their first post-school qualification. They cover tuition fees, accommodation fees and give students a transport, living and book allowance.

For the first time this year it is also providing loans to students from the group called the ‘missing middle’ which will cover either undergraduate or postgraduate studies.

SARS Consent Form For NSFAS

NSFAS has asked some applicants to complete a SARS consent form which needs to be completed and returned so that their application is completed. The NSFAS SARS consent form gives authority for NSFAS to check the family’s combined income against the SARS database. The consent form NSFAS asks for is compulsory and funding won’t be approved without it.

. You can download the form and fill it in before you upload it and submit it to NSFAS for them to complete your application.

How to Fill Out the NSFAS Consent Form Online

While the official NSFAS website doesn’t offer a direct online form-filling option, there are third-party services that allow you to complete and sign the downloaded PDF electronically.

These are some popular choices:

  1. DocuSign and Adobe Sign are widely used e-signature platforms. These services allow you to upload the downloaded PDF, fill in the required information, and add your electronic signature.
  2. Smallpdf and Foxit PDF offer free online PDF editing tools. These tools let you fill out fillable PDF forms directly within your web browser. However, the 2024 NSFAS consent form might not be pre-formatted for online editing, so you might need to manually type your information instead of using fillable fields.

You must ensure all the information you provide on the consent form matches the details in your NSFAS application.

Write neatly and legibly if you’re printing and signing the form manually.

The form requires signatures from the applicant, and potentially a parent/guardian or spouse/partner (if applicable).

Once completed, save the filled and signed form electronically or print it out for physical submission as instructed by NSFAS.

How To Upload The NSFAS Consent Form Online

We can help you with guidance on how to submit NSFAS Consent form. Once you have completed the form go to http://my.nsfas.org.za

and login. You will receive the option to upload your outstanding supporting documents. Once the documents have been uploaded click on the tab ‘Submit Documents’.

The process is complete once all documents are uploaded and you receive notification that says ‘Outstanding application documents submitted successfully uploaded’.

Upload the NSFAS Consent Form

If you did upload the documents but there was a problem the most common issue is that the documents are not clear.  If you have a problem taking photos with your cellphone you can go to a NSFAS or a NYDA office and they will assist you. If there is not a NSFAS or NYDA office near you, and you have applied to a college or varsity then ask their fees office to assist you.

The MyNSFAS Student Portal

Once you’ve applied and you want to access your application status:

  • Login on the myNSFAS student portal through this link: https://bit.ly/2SWFVh3

  • Enter your username and password, then click SIGN IN!

  • Click on Track Funding Progress.

  • Once you have followed these three easy steps, you will be able to see whether you are funded or not. It may take some time for your application to be successful so please be patient.

Application results will be communicated to all applicants once NSFAS received confirmation from the institution that an academic offer has been made to you. NSFAS will inform you of their decision before the start of the academic year and this will be done through SMS, email as well as your myNSFAS account.

Once you are approved for NSFAS funding, the funding covers you until you finish your qualification. This does however depend on whether you continue to meet the academic criteria. You just need to focus on studying and passing your modules to secure your continued funding.
