How Long Does NSFAS Take to Verify Identity? After Uploading ID for NSFAS Application you have to stay Calm wait for Home Affairs to verification this article well explain exactly time the process may take.

In an interview, NSFAS spokesperson, Slumezi Skosana spokesperson, shared that the Scheme has been implementing other measures to verify and authenticate student information through third parties.

Student information is authenticated through the verification of their ID number, name, and surname when creating their myNSFAS account.

Once the student’s details have been verified through the Department of Home Affairs (DHA), NSFAS uses it to continue reviewing the online funding application and this process can take up to six weeks (although it may take a bit longer in some cases).

According to the government bursary scheme, should the student’s information be incorrect, they will need to contact the department to make sure that it is rectified.

It is mandatory for NSFAS to conduct these background checks to ensure that the information that the student has submitted is indeed factual.

South African Union of Students spokesperson, Asive Dlanjwa has applauded the use of third-party for checks and fewer cases of corruption being reported.

Although, in the past few years the student union has been critical of the Scheme’s capabilities.

It is for this reason that the Transport & State Capture Portfolio Manager at the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse, Rudie Heyneke said the organisation is glad the president signed a proclamation for the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to look into the affairs of NSFAS.

How do I know if my NSFAS application was successful?

NSFAS will send you a message regarding the outcome of your application via email, SMS and on your myNSFAS account portal.

This will only happen once NSFAS has received confirmation of an offer for admission from the tertiary institution you’ve applied to before the start of the academic year. Simply put, candidates must be accepted to study at a tertiary institution before NSFAS can approve their funding application.

If you’re currently in your matric year, you’ll have to wait until your final matric results are released in January, followed by a firm offer to study, before your funding application is approved.

Applicants who have already completed matric have a shorter waiting period. They will most likely know the outcome of their application as soon as their chosen tertiary institution has made a final offer of admission.

What To Do Whilst Waiting For NSFAS Approval Message

It’s not a nice feeling to be in the dark, especially in situations where all you can do is wait. You might not have control over the final outcome of your application, but you can certainly stay up to date with your application status whilst waiting for that message of approval.

The myNSFAS is a useful platform for keeping track of your application. Simply log onto the portal with your usual logins and click on the “TrackFunding Progress” menu to check the status of your application.

Constantly checking your myNSFAS account can also help you detect missing information or outstanding supporting documents, which could delay your application’s progress.

Since the outcome of your tertiary application depends directly on your funding application, as an applicant still waiting for final matric results, you may find it useful to regularly follow up with your chosen tertiary institution regarding your admission status.

FAQs

Check your application status by logging into your myNSFAS account and track your application. If you do not have a myNSFAS account, visit www.nsfas.org.za for the steps on how to create your myNSFAS account.
How long does it take for NSFAS to approve?
Every application is treated differently, each student is evaluated from the day they submit their application, but the NSFAS process is supposed to take about 4 to 6 weeks for each applicant to receive a response in their status section. At most, it should take 30 days for NSFAS to approve your application.
How long does it take to unlock NSFAS profile?
Wait for confirmation: After you have followed the instructions provided by the NSFAS Contact Centre, you will need to wait for confirmation that your profile has been unlocked. This may take a few hours or a few days, depending on the volume of requests they are receiving.
