The fourth season of the American science fiction horror drama television series Stranger Things, titled Stranger Things 4, was released worldwide on the streaming service Netflix in two volumes. The first set of seven episodes was released on May 27, 2022, and the second set, of two episodes, will be released on July 1, 2022. The events of the fourth season take place eight months after the end of the third season, as strange deaths tied to the Upside Down cause paranoia among Hawkins’ residents.
The season was produced by the show’s creators the Duffer Brothers, along with Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, Iain Paterson and Curtis Gwinn. Returning as series regulars include: Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, and Priah Ferguson, while Brett Gelman, Matthew Modine and Paul Reiser were promoted to series regulars. Jamie Campbell Bower, Joseph Quinn, Eduardo Franco, Cara Buono, Tom Wlaschiha, and Mason Dye appear in recurring roles.
The season’s first seven episodes have received largely positive reviews. Critics praised the performances (particularly Bower, Brown, Quinn, and Sink), aesthetics, action sequences, and the darker, more adult tone compared to previous seasons, while some criticized it for feeling overstuffed and overlong due to the lengthier episode runtimes
