Network Mobiliser: Parents Empowerment Initiative
The DG Murray Trust is incubating an initiative targeted at building the collective power of parents. Parents play a critical role in the educational journey of South Africa’s children. When empowered, they can use their agency to shape the education system and ultimately the learning experience of South African children.
The Parent Empowerment Initiative aims to support parents to:
- demand quality education for their children and accountability for their learning;
- build their shared identity as valued and active stakeholders in children’s education; and
- leverage their love and support for the benefit of their children.
Position:
We are recruiting a Network Mobiliser for the Parent Empowerment Initiative to take on the responsibilities outlined below. Working with the Programme Lead for the Parents Empowerment Initiative, the Network Mobiliser must:
- Design a strategy, plan and relevant tools to facilitate local mobilisation of parents
- Work with relevant stakeholders to coordinate and execute the local mobilisation of parents
- Build a network of champion parents.
- Facilitate the relationship between the Parents Empowerment Initiative and the network of champion parents.
- Develop and facilitate mechanisms and platforms that allow the network of parents to collectively advocate for change.
- Identify and share best practices across the network.
- Source stories from the network to feed into public communications content development.
- Design a plan to monitor and evaluate the effects of parent mobilisation
Requirements:
At a minimum, the candidate must have:
- a relevant degree – social sciences or related field;
- 3 years of relevant experience in a similar field;
- 2 years of experience in community engagement and;
- strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferably the candidate his:
- fluency in two or more South African languages.
- facilitation or training experience
The ideal candidate has the following attributes, they:
- can project manage
- have the ability to think creatively to remove obstacles and solve problems
- have the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse groups of people and gain their trust and respect
- can promote the vision and values of a programme to stakeholders
