About the Position
THIS ROLE IS SPECIFICALLY FOR A CANDIDATE FROM A PREVIOUSLY DISADVANTAGED GROUP, WITH A PREFERENCE FOR SOMEONE WHO SPEAKS ONE OF THE MAJOR BLACK LANGUAGES (e.g. XHOSA, ZULU)
This exciting opportunity in the Non-Profit sector, based in Cape Town, requires a Qualified Medical Doctor, to fulfill the role of Health Services Director and Chief Operations Director for an organisation, working on a national basis in the field of HIV/AIDS, especially within young women and adolescent girls. The scope of their programmes is aimed at education and prevention, but incorporates screening, testing and treatment and care across various areas on a national basis.
Ideally the successful candidate will have worked within the field of HIV/AIDS and be fully conversant with the methods, systems and procedures handled by the Government DEPARTMENT of HEALTH within the public health services. This is a well-funded organisation with reputable internationlal donors
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:
- Directing all health and psycho-social services and clinical staff
- Development of innovative, strategic health service plans based on what funders and Government requires.
- An ability to write operational protocols for new programmes or extensions of existing ones,
- Oversight of evaluation and monitoring of all progress towards targets and objectives
- Ensuring that all systems and processes are in place to support delivery and high quality service
- Interaction on a regular basis with Government, other stakeholders and potential funders to disseminate relevant information, research findings, and other pertinent communications.
- Providing guidance to all medical programmes, staff and stakeholders, and effect high level outcomes.
- Working closely with the Operations Manager and other Directors in meeting organisational objectives
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
- MD/MBBS/ MBChB with significant experience in PUBLIC HEALTH especially HIV/AIDS
- Previous practical experience in the field of HIV/AIDS in South Africa,
- Sound managerial and leadership skills – preferably in the Non-Profit sector, and inclduing strategic management, planning and direction.
- Strong communication and relationship building skills, and an ability to develop international links to relevant aid and research organisations (WHO and CDC)
- Sound business skills in terms of resource mobilisation, planning and execution.
