Corruption Watch is a non-profit organisation launched in January 2012, relying on the public to report corruption to them. The organisation uses these reports as an important source of information to fight corruption and hold leaders accountable for their actions. Corruption Watch exposes corruption through their communications platforms and mobilises the public to take a stand against corruption and the abuse of public funds. Corruption Watch engages in impact litigation, and makes submissions to parliamentary processes and commissions.
Based in Johannesburg, Corruption Watch seeks to fill the following position:
Attorney
The purpose of this role is to provide general and legal support to Corruption Watch’s Legal & Investigations team through the execution of various duties, including but not limited to: legal research and drafting, case management, drafting legal submissions, litigation support, other legal interventions, investigations, general administrative work, and assistance with project based deliverables.
Key responsibilities for this exciting position include:
- Case management, legal drafting and strategic litigation thinking
- Factual research on specific cases and reports
- Legal research and writing, including the drafting of opinion pieces
- Assist with legal projects, campaigns workshops and seminars
- General administrative assistance to the Legal and Investigations team
The Attorney must possess and be able to demonstrate:
- LLB degree
- Admitted attorney
- Strong understanding of the South African political climate
- Understanding of constitutional arrangements
- Legal research experience
- Detail orientation
- Communication skills written and spoken
- Stakeholder management skills
- Investigation and research aptitude and experience
- Anti-corruption and human rights experience
- Enthusiasm for CW’s mission and vision
- Team player
- Accountable and responsible
- Self-starter
- Strong interpersonal Skills
- Emotional intelligence
