Allan Gray Orbis High School Scholarship for Grade 8 2023 – 2024 The Allan Gray Scholarship program seeks to develop a self-assured scholar with entrepreneurial thinking, untapped potential, leadership skills, a desire to create value, the ability to solve problems, an aspiration and intention to become a Fellow, knowledge of the culture of community and collaboration, and a positive attitude. The Scholarship Program aims to instill in young people an entrepreneurial mindset so that they can continue Southern Africa’s economic and social transformation and address historical inequities.

Requirements for Allan Gray Scholarship for Grade 8

Our Scholarship Programme targets financially constrained Grade 6 learners who have significant entrepreneurial potential. Their 70% overall academic average allows them to apply for the opportunity to be placed in a quality South African High School environment for learning and growth. Their potential is nurtured through a programme which combines classroom learning with online and peers learning, as well as one-on-one interventions and access to the Foundation Online Campus (OLC). Scholars are further supported through mentorship by a dedicated Programme Officer.

Ensure you meet the following requirements before applying:

• Applicant must be a current grade 6 learner in year of application
• Applicant must be a South African citizen
• Candidates must not be older than 12 years of age and not younger than 11 years of age in grade 6
• Applicant must demonstrate financial need
• Applicant must obtain a minimum of 70% for English and Mathematics
• Application must obtain a Minimum overall average of 70%
• The applicant must demonstrate the following entrepreneurial characteristics:
  • Growth Mindset – the belief that one’s intelligence can be developed
  • Self-Efficacy – self-belief to achieve goals
  • Leadership – to positively lead and influence others
  • Opportunity Identification – ability to identify opportunities of value
  • Curiosity – ability to explore and discover new information
  • Problem Solving – the ability to creatively solve problems
