- 1661 AD – The first paper money is printed in Sweden.
- 1782 AD – The first paper money was introduced in South Africa – it was hand-written.
- 1793 AD – South Africa’s first bank opens its doors.
- 1946 AD – The first credit card was invented.
- 1961 AD – The currency is changed from British Pounds to Rands and Cents in South Africa.
- 1999 AD – The first mobile bank in Europe began.
- 2009 AD – Bitcoin made an appearance as the first virtual currency.
