Job Title: Digital Communications Specialist
Position duration: Fixed Term Contract (Aug 2020 – June 2023)
Location: Pretoria
Organisational Background
Centre for Communication Impact (CCI) is a non-profit South African organisation based in Pretoria. We aim to be a centre of excellence in Strategic health and development Communication programmes that are centred around meaningful Community Engagement. CCI has been implementing Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) programs since 2004.
Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Technical Advisor (STA), this position will be responsible for developing a digital growth and content marketing strategy, maintaining the project’s digital platform, creation of GBV digital content, performing website content updates and write news and blog posts, and promote and maintain virtual engagement with key target groups. The Specialist will also collaborate with content contributors to create high-quality content GBV and trends. This position will be the key staff that will develop and maintain effective technical and programme partnership will all media institutions, on behalf of the GBV project. These partnerships will include, but not limited to community radio stations, production companies, TV stations, social media companies, as well as short-term experts/ consultants in the digital media sector. This role will also play a very critical role in raising the provincial and national profile of the Masiphephe Network by proactively identifying and/or creating opportunities for frequent and increased media coverage of the Masiphephe Network including press releases, media interviews, articles, blogs, etc.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and manage all social and digital media channels including the GBV project’s partnership with community radio stations, TV stations, production houses and digital media consultants.
- Conduct research, analyse and provide expert advice with regard to designing and implementing CCI’s digital media GBV campaigns and strategies.
- Ensure that the CCI website and social media platforms are regularly updated with information on new media platforms.
- Implement and manage the layout, design and content of all digital communication platforms and design GBV content and package materials for distribution on new media channels.
- Implement and manage the creation of all digital media content such as website, blogs, press releases and podcasts, infographics, videos etc.
- Manage development and implementation of localized and district GBV campaigns and programme strategies through effective stakeholder and media engagement to amplify communication campaigns.
- Lead beneficiary and stakeholder liaison function of all CCI related online campaign activities and use digital channel platforms to deliver a strong beneficiary and stakeholder value preposition
- Research effective campaign platforms in local media and communities for effective GBV outreach and campaign message distribution.
- Implement campaign activities within budget to deliver effective campaign strategies.
- Maintain active communication with CCI programmes stakeholders including beneficiaries through the website and digital platforms.
- Working with the Operations Team, ensure service providers are sourced, contracted and managed in line with CCI campaign activities and implementation plan.
- Contribute to project reporting and monitoring of targets and milestones.
Education and experience
- Honour’s Degree in the field of Information Technology, Digital Media, Multimedia Communications or related discipline.
- Master’s qualification, (NQF Level 9) will be an added advantage.
- At least 5 to 7 years’ experience in a similar environment.
- At least 5 years of experience with online digital media content management.
- Solid knowledge of web design and Search Engine Optimisation.
- Experience with visual communication methods.
- Possess proficiency in CSS, HTML 5, HTML, and Adobe Programme such as DreamWeaver, FrameMaker, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat.
- Demonstrable experience of working within Health/HIV, gender equality and/or human rights programming experience
- Knowledge of, and understanding of the current thinking, programming approaches and trends in the field of gender equality and women empowerment (GEWE) will be an additional advantage
- Having networks and contacts with key partners in the national, provincial and local digital media sector would be another added advantage
- Valid Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel periodically to project sites for business engagements.
