Explain how poverty may affect personal health in Life orientation
Explain how poverty may affect personal health in Life orientation Poverty is a pernicious and subtle factor in health that can run in a family for several generations due to systemic causes. Poverty has a significant negative impact on one’s health and health outcomes from the moment of birth until the end of their life. The American Academy of Family Physicians’ (AAFP) mission is to transform healthcare so that everyone can live a healthy life. Primary care doctors and public health specialists continue to work together toward a common goal of enhancing population health. This shared vision becomes even more pertinent, targeted, and distinct as primary care and public health continue to be integrated. In order to succeed in this new era, health care must be transformed in order to overcome challenges related to social, environmental, and community determinants of health, such as poverty. 1,2,3,4
Family doctors serve generations of families and follow patients through various life stages, so we have a unique perspective on the health issues facing the local population. We have the honor of hearing the intricate tales of people and families who have experienced sickness and health over extensive time periods and in a variety of care settings. We know the patient’s entire story rather than just seeing a single image of them during a period of illness. We are aware of the environmental, patient, and family factors that contribute to illness and disease, as well as the need for patients to effectively manage their conditions. Family doctors are in a good position to identify each patient’s particular barriers to better health and offer assistance in removing them because they work with patients throughout their entire life.
