One to One Africa uses peer support models to address the needs of women, children and adolescents in communities across South Africa. Their primary focus is on access to healthcare and education through practical, cost-effective interventions that leverage the lived experience of members of the communities they work in and the expertise of partner organisations and the government. The charity has been working in Africa for more than 15 years, in partnership with local organisations. It focuses largely on issues surrounding HIV/AIDS and has facilitated significant improvements in access to treatment and quality of care throughout Southern Africa.
One to One Africa seeks a Major Gifts & Grants Proposal Writer to be based in Remote for the time being, but must be based in South Africa, ideally in Cape Town.
Employment Type: Part-time, Contract: 1 year, 50% FTE (20hrs per week)
Reports to: Country Director
Remuneration: Commensurate with experience, +/-R220 000 per annum
Start date: 1 September 2020
The purpose of this position is to support them in their fundraising efforts, particularly with their applications for funding from international institutional donors.
Responsibilities:
- Research and identify grant opportunities in line with the organisation’s thematic focus, strategy, and capacity;
- Prepare concepts notes, proposals and budgets for a range of programmes that focus on maternal, child and adolescent health, HIV/AIDS, early child development, and gender equality to a variety of funding partners, including multilaterals, trusts foundations, and corporations;
- Manage the entire proposal production process from conceptualisation through development;
- Works on multiple proposals at varying stages of development simultaneously and independently;
- Create the proposal calendar and ensure that other contributing team members knows what is expected of them and when tasks are due;
- Provide detailed and strategic analyses of solicitations, develops requirements list and submission information according to solicitation instructions;
- Build strong relationships with colleagues across multiple departments to facilitate collaborative proposal development and to continually improve proposal and business development processes; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, public health, development, communication or a related field.
- Demonstrated success in writing proposals, technical briefs / concept notes, capability statements;
- Excellent writing and editing skills; and
- In-depth knowledge of public health-related topics.
- Work Experience:
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar role;
- Proven proposal development experience for international institutional donors (e.g. USAID/DFID/BMZ/GIZ), local institutional donors, trusts and foundations, and corporations; and
- Extensive experience in developing technical proposals, budgets, log frames, work plans, and other proposal sections.
- Languages, Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent English communication skills;
- Ability to convey complex ideas effectively and in a compelling manner to internal and external audiences;
- Demonstrated knowledge of national and international development, in particular, global health issues;
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines;
- Exceptional organisational, analytical, strategic planning, and research skills;
- Excellent and proven ability to initiate and organize work, establish priorities in a time-sensitive environment, and meet deadlines with attention to detail and quality;
- The ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a demanding, fast-paced and rapidly changing environment;
- Reliable internet access and a suitable home-office space for remote work; and
- Excellent inter-personal skills.
