10 most peaceful African countries in 2023 The 17th edition of the Global Peace Index (GPI), which rates the level of peace in 163 independent states and territories, offers the most in-depth data-driven examination of peace trends, its economic value, and how to create peaceful communities.

The report claims that, in the last 15 years, the world has been less peaceful, with a 5% decline in the average country score. Out of the 163 countries included in the GPI, 95 saw their scores decline, 66 saw them improve, and two saw no change. Between 2008 and 2023, 16 of the 23 GPI indicators showed deterioration while 8 showed improvement.

The average country score for Sub-Saharan Africa declined by 0.57 percent in the 2023 GPI, according to the report, which showed a minor decline in the region’s level of peace. Out of the 44 countries in the region, 21 saw their scores rise, 22 saw them fall, and one saw no change.

Additional information from the survey showed that Mauritius, which came in at number 23 on the 2023 GPI, is the most peaceful nation in the area. South Sudan, on the other hand, continues to be one of the least peaceful nations in the world and the least peaceful nation in the region. Due to declines in the domains of Ongoing Conflict and Militarization, South Sudan saw a 1% decline in its total score.
