Your Role:
We are looking for a qualified registered Nurse Midwife who can provide comprehensive primary, urgent and obstetrical care at WAJAMAMA’s private clinic and community health outreach programs.
You will work with a variety of patients, providing direct nursing care, along with physical or psychological support when required.
The community outreach programs will consist of providing obstetric care for pregnant women and their babies, conducting interactive educational sessions on maternal and child care, and supporting women and infants during prenatal and postnatal follow-up sessions.
This includes the provision of consistent care, emotional support, and the facilitation of community building that follows our Group Care curriculum.
The Nurse Midwife will also be responsible for providing weekly cervical cancer educational workshops and screenings.
This will require training in the screen-and-treat approach using a Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) method.
The Nurse Midwife will also be responsible for supporting and facilitating educational workshops in Menstrual Hygiene Management and other maternal and reproductive-related sessions for our growing outreach programs.
As part of the responsibilities, the Nurse Midwife will manage the inputting of captured data obtained from the various outreach programs
Responsibilities
• Provides direct prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and/or well-women patient services and primary care to obstetrical and gynecological patients.
• Provides direct primary and urgent care and prepares patients for examinations and performs routine diagnostic checks (monitor pulse, blood pressure, temperature, provide drugs and injections, etc).
• Nurture a compassionate environment by providing psychological support.
• Provide comprehensive maternal and child services to mothers during and after pregnancy, including managing complications and referring high-risk pregnancies.
• Monitoring the general health condition of the mother and the newborn.
• Facilitate educational workshops and sessions in reproductive, maternal, and child health.
• Provide counseling and education to mothers on pregnancy and post-pregnancy management, including proper breastfeeding techniques and nutrition.
• Provide primary care to women of reproductive age in accordance with our program protocols
• Provide VIA screening to women between the ages of 25 – 50 years.
• Use of our data capturing and M&E tools.
• Ensure data collected is accurate and submit reports according to the schedule.
• Ensure the Safeguarding of program participants and employees through promoting an environment of awareness and upholding the WAJAMAMA Code of Conduct and Safeguarding protocol.
• Ensure hygiene and sterilization criteria, including universal precautions, are met.
• Ensure that medical practices are conducted with the highest level of integrity and ethics.
• Monitor compliance with prescribed medications.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Nurse Midwifery from an accredited School of Nursing
• Valid practical nursing license
• Strong facilitation skills
• Experience in data capturing and reporting would be an advantage
• At least 1 year of clinical and midwifery experience
• Experience working in facilitating educational programs is an added advantage
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Physically sound as this position requires working at remote health facilities and carrying equipment
• Fluency in Kiswahili and English
