Job Opportunity at United Nations – DRIVER G2 April 2022 The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the agency for human settlements mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. UN-Habitat helps the urban poor by transforming cities into safer and healthier places with better opportunities. It works with organizations at every level, including all spheres of government, civil society and the private sector. This post is located in the Urban Basic Services Section, Kigoma duty station in Tanzania.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Associate Coordination Officer, Kigoma the driver will be responsible for the following duties:-
- Drives vehicles safely for the transportation of authorised personnel to the respective project areas of Kigoma region. Collects and delivers mail, documents, and other items.
- Meets official personnel at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities as required;
- Takes care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tries, performs minor repairs and arrange for other repairs and ensures that the vehicle is kept clean.
- Logs official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing.
- Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent. Driver training with a valid driver’s license.
Work Experience
- At least One (1) year driving experience with a safe driving record is required.
- Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans and other kinds of motorized vehicles is a desirable.
- Experience with the United Nations Agencies or similar International organization would be desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English and Kiswahili/Swahili (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of other local languages of Tanzania is desirable.
NOTE: “fluency equals a rating of “fluent” in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of “confident” in two of the four areas.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

- Appointment against this post is on a local basis and is open for an initial period of one year and may be subject to extension.
