What Is the SAB Packaging Learnership Programme?

The SAB Packaging Learnership Programme is a structured one-year training programme designed to equip unemployed youth and entry-level candidates with both theoretical knowledge and practical workplace experience in food and beverage packaging.

Learners will work toward obtaining a National Certificate in Food and Beverage Packaging (NQF Level 3) — a nationally recognised qualification registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and aligned with SAQA unit standards.

Key Outputs and Responsibilities

Learners will:

  • Participate in a structured learning programme combining theory and practice
  • Complete theoretical components during off-the-job training
  • Apply learned theory in a real manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrate competence in the workplace through continuous assessments

Learnership Characteristics

  • Leads to a nationally recognised qualification on the NQF
  • Based on SAQA-registered unit standards
  • Focuses on value-adding, workplace-relevant skills

Minimum Requirements and Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics and English
  • Technical qualifications (N3, N4, N5 or N6) will be an advantage

  • Ability to work effectively in teams
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work in a production environment
