Barrick Gold Tanzania has announced new job vacancies for October 2026, offering opportunities for qualified and experienced candidates in underground mining, equipment operation, electrical maintenance, and mine support services. The latest opportunities include positions such as Cable Bolt Operator, Mobile Equipment Operator III – Grader, and Assistant UG Electrician, with vacancies associated with Barrick’s Bulyanhulu Gold Mine and underground mining operations in Tanzania.

1: Cable Bolt Operator

Responsibilities

  • Train the locals to high levels of Cable Bolter Operation.
  • Contribute to our safety culture (journey to zero) by adhering to all health and safety standards, policies, procedures, and legislation.
  • To drill ground support holes, install cables, and grout them according to the mine ground support specifications.
  • To avoid over-drilling and under-drilling and work in accordance with standards, plans, and layouts, as well as the geotechnical plans.
  • Follow a markup in accordance with geological, statutory, and survey specifications.
  • Work with technical and supervisory staff in all quality and safety initiatives.
  • Ensure end-of-shift reports are up to date.
  • Perform visual inspections of equipment before and during operation according to procedure to minimize breakdowns and operational losses by the timely reporting of defects/abnormalities to the Supervisor.
  • Operate equipment according to relevant mining requirements and Standard Operating Procedures to achieve daily bolting targets.
  • Conduct efficient housekeeping of the equipment and work areas.

Qualification Requirements

  • High School or equivalent qualification
  • Relevant Cable Bolter competency certification

Experience and Skills Requirements 

  • Minimum of 3 – 5 years of practical experience in operating a Cable Bolter in an underground mining environment.
  • Underground drilling knowledge and skills.
  • Previous operation of Sandvik or Atlas Copco Cable Bolters will be advantageous.
  • Ability to read and understand cable bolt layouts.
  • Strong knowledge & understanding of ground support standards.
  • Sound knowledge and experience of underground mining practices and operations.
  • Knowledge of Safety, Health, and Environmental Legislation and standards applicable to underground mining.

2: Mobile Equipment Operator III – Grader

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate underground motor grader to maintain and repair haul roads, ramps, and access ways.
  • Ensure road surfaces are properly graded for drainage, traction, and safe vehicle movement.
  • Remove spillage, debris, and uneven surfaces from roadways.
  • Conduct pre-operational inspections and routine maintenance checks on equipment.
  • Identify and report mechanical issues, hazards, or unsafe conditions.
  • Work closely with truck operators and supervisors to prioritize road maintenance needs.
  • Follow mine plans, ventilation requirements, and traffic management systems.
  • Maintain proper berms, ditches, and roadway profiles underground.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations, procedures, and environmental standards.
  • Complete required documentation, logs, and reports accurately.
  • Assist with other underground tasks as required by supervisors.
  • Support continuous improvement in initiatives in road maintenance and safety.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience operating graders, preferably in underground mining.
  • Valid equipment operator certification or relevant licenses.
  • Familiarity with underground mining practices, safety standards, and equipment.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge for troubleshooting and minor repairs.
  • Ability to read and interpret mine plans and instructions.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong attention to safety and hazard awareness.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and equipment handling skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making ability in dynamic environments.

Working Conditions

  • Work performed in underground mining environments with confined spaces, low lighting, and varying temperatures.
  • Exposure to dust, noise, and heavy equipment.
  • Rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and extended hours may be required.

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Strict adherence to all mine safety regulations and PPE requirements.
  • Participation in safety meetings, inspections, and training programs.
  • Commitment to a zero-harm safety culture.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while operating machinery.
  • Good physical fitness to work in underground conditions.
  • Capability to enter/exit equipment safely and perform manual tasks when required.

3: Assistant UG Electrician

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safe work practices by attending compulsory safety training, safety meetings, and adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Assist in incident and accident investigations to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Comply with Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, as well as other company regulations and procedures.
  • Assist in installing, maintaining, and overhaul  electrical equipment to reduce unplanned downtime and maximize equipment availability.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and repair underground distribution systems, including transformers, circuit interrupters, voltage regulators, medium voltage switches, and related hardware.
  • Assist in Replace and install medium- and high-voltage electrical circuits and terminations, 
  • Conduct routine testing and safety checks on electrical equipment, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Respond promptly to electrical breakdowns, perform fault-finding, and carry out necessary repairs.
  • Complete modifications to electrical systems and equipment as per specifications.
  • Support and mentor less experienced personnel through on-the-job training and coaching.
  • Execute all tasks and instructions given by supervisors, ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of underground electrical maintenance experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medium and high voltage systems, substations, and primary power distribution.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical distribution systems, including transformers, circuit breakers, and switchgear.
  • Formal electrical training or certification aligned with Tanzanian standards.

Experience and Skills Requirements:

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical manuals.
  • Strong commitment to safety, health, and environmental policies.
  • Proven ability to work under challenging conditions and adapt to operational demands.
  • Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
