IUPUI NetID Login ,Activate,Reset password & Find Indiana University Network ID Account Your University account is your electronic identity at Indiana University , consisting of both an IU username and an IU passphrase. A University account is created when you create your first computing account.
You will use the username and passphrase of this account to log into almost all technology services at IU, including:
- Services to manage your University account’s passphrase and security
- Your IU email
- Online applications and systems, such as One.IU or IUanyWare
- Computers in IU Student Technology Centers (STCs)
How to Reset your IU passphrase
Before you begin
If you have forgotten your passphrase and need to reset it:
- Students, faculty, staff, applicants, and IU affiliates can use Passphrase Reset.
- All enrolled users can use Passphrase Reset by email.
- All enrolled users can use Passphrase Reset questions.
- Accounts belonging to groups, departments, or organizations are not eligible to use Passphrase Reset; you will have to reset your passphrase in person at your campus Support Center, or by mail or fax.The account sponsor, or owner, is the only person authorized to reset the group account passphrase, even if there are other people who regularly log into and use the account.
All group or departmental accounts must have owners who are active faculty or staff members (as reported by HRMS). If the owner leaves the university or (through change of HR status) becomes ineligible to own a group account, the owned account(s) will be removed. To ensure the continuity of group accounts, see Transfer ownership of a group or departmental account.
For security reasons, UITS must be able to verify your identity in order to reset your passphrase. All of the following methods require that you know your 10-digit University ID number.
- You will receive email confirmation when you change your passphrase. For group accounts, the account and account owner will receive the message.
- When you change your IU passphrase, it may take up to 20 minutes for all systems to recognize the new passphrase. UITS recommends waiting 20 minutes before contacting the Support Center if you have trouble logging into IU systems, such as One.IU .

Reset your passphrase in person
You can reset your personal IU account passphrase in person at your campus Support Center, or in a staffed Student Technology Center (STC) or Residential Technology Center (RTC). If you are the owner of an IU group account, you can also reset the passphrase for your group account at your campus Support Center:
- Support Center: Take a photo ID to your campus Support Center. You will need to know your University ID number. Once a consultant has confirmed your identity, allow 20 minutes for your passphrase change to be processed. Remember that only the owner of an IU group account can reset the passphrase for that account.
- Staffed STC or RTC: In any staffed STC or RTC, take your photo ID to the TCC consultant on duty. The consultant will confirm your identity and provide a code with instructions for resetting your personal IU account passphrase on your own. You cannot reset the passphrase for an IU group account at a staffed STC or RTC; you must instead go to your campus Support Center.Note:
- For STC hours and staffing, see Staffing in the IUB and IUPUI STCs.
- The RTCs are not staffed during student breaks, and hours are limited during the summer.
Reset your passphrase by mail or fax
If you cannot visit the Support Center or a staffed STC/RTC, you may fill out a Passphrase Change Form; see Request a passphrase reset by mail or fax.
How to Request a username change for your UITS computing accounts
- Vanity username changes are not permitted. For official Indiana University policy, see Computer and Network Accounts Administration (IT-18) .
- Group accounts cannot be renamed. If your group account needs a new username, you’ll need to request the new username, create the account(s), and then transfer mail messages and web page folders to that new account. For instructions, see About IU computing accounts for groups or departments.
You can change your IU username if your name has changed in the official university databases. (If your name has changed, make sure to first register the change with the Office of the Registrar or IU Human Resources.) UITS may also allow username changes for cases in which a commonly derived username poses potential danger to the user and/or the combination of characters in a username results in an objectionable name or term.
If you need to change your username, email Tier 2 Accounts Administration , including:
- Your primary name
- Your preferred name (if different from your primary name)
- Your present username
- Three suggested, unique new usernames, in order of preference, that are:
- Three to eight characters in length
- Based on your last name (except for cases of harassment, for which special rules apply)
Your request will be processed based on the availability of the requested names. Account administrators will contact you regarding the availability of the usernames you requested, and to schedule the change. Account renames may be scheduled to process on weekdays between 8am and 5pm. You must be logged out of all IT resources for about an hour while the change is being processed.
UITS will forward mail from the old address to the new address for 30 days; however, it is your responsibility to notify people and groups of your username change, especially if you are on any mailing lists for classes or work.
