Overview of the UNISA & FASSET Internship Programme

The internship programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world work experience. Through this initiative, successful interns are placed within UNISA departments and related environments where they receive structured mentoring, skills development, and hands-on exposure aligned with their field of study.

Internship Fields Available

The internship placements fall within finance and audit departments.

Available areas include:

  • Financial Governance & Compliance
  • Budget and Cost Management
  • Student Funding Finance
  • Revenue and Treasury Management
  • Expenditure Management
  • Internal Audit
  • Forensic Investigation (Internal Audit)

These roles are based mainly in Pretoria, with some positions in Johannesburg.

Each department provides exposure to real institutional financial operations — a strong foundation for accounting and auditing careers.

Who Should Apply UNISA & FASSET Internship Programme 2026?

To qualify, applicants must meet ALL requirements

Basic Eligibility

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be unemployed
  • Must be 35 years old or younger
  • Must have completed a UNISA qualification
  • Qualification must be NQF Level 6 or higher
  • Must have no prior work experience
  • Must not have participated in a FASSET-funded programme before
  • Must not have been previously employed at UNISA or another organisation

Required Qualifications 

Depending on placement, qualifications include:

  • BCom Accounting Science
  • Accounting Sciences (Management Accounting)
  • Diploma or Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting
  • Internal Auditing qualifications
  • Forensic Auditing / Forensic Investigation degrees
