The vision of the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport is a modern, integrated, efficient and sustainable transport and road infrastructure system in Gauteng. Its mission is to facilitate and provide an integrated transport system that is reliable, accessible, safe and affordable; offers seamless mobility; is environmentally sustainable; and supports industrialisation and radical socio-economic transformation.

Gauteng Roads and Transport Open Application Window for the 24-month internship programme for the year 2026.The Applicant Advised to send Application Before 20 February 2026 this programme will be Operated in the Following location Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport, Head Office, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Objectives of the Internship Programme

The programme aims to:

  • Provide practical workplace exposure

  • Develop technical and administrative skills

  • Enhance graduate employability

  • Prepare youth for long-term careers

  • Support transformation and skills transfer

Fields Commonly Considered

Although fields vary depending on departmental needs, internships are usually offered in areas such as:

  • Civil Engineering

  • Transport Management

  • Public Administration

  • Finance

  • Supply Chain Management

  • Human Resources

  • Information Technology

  • Communication & Marketing

  • Project Management

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • National Diploma or Degree in:
    • Library and Knowledge Management
    • Public Management / Governance
    • Information Science
  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be unemployed
  • Must not have participated in any internship programme before

Duties

Successful candidates will be required:

  • To complete all tasks assigned in relation to the post
  • To support the Directorate in policy, legislation, research, and knowledge management activities

Employment Equity

In line with the Department’s Employment Equity Plan:

  • Female candidates and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply
  • Preference will be given to candidates whose appointment will promote representativity in the Public Service

Required Documents:

  • Most recent Z83 Application Form (fully completed, initialled and signed)
  • A comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV)

Failure to submit both the completed Z83 form and CV will result in disqualification.
